A brief, but haunting novella with a wartime setting in the 1940's, "Widow's Walk" tells the tale of Mary Andrews, a bright, but solitary girl who finds herself detached from her classmates at the Helen Rogers Bromley School For Young Women.

Mary's lover, James Kirby, is a military aviator flying in battle in the skies over North Africa. While her classmates gossip and pass along ghost stories about their school building, the bookish Mary pines for her pilot and fears for his safety.

After a terrifying experience walking in the serene beauty of a local cemetery, Mary returns to find a family member waiting for her, bearing news of James. Has he been discharged? Is he returning home to her? Or is the news much more sinister?

Written with Christmas's characteristic attention to detail, subtle prose, and vivid description, "Widow's Walk" is a moving story that will stay with you long after you've read the last page.

Widow Walk eBook B Scott Christmas

For a short story it packs a lot of story into a small amount of space. Mr. Christmas' descriptive phrases fleshes out his characters so that it is easy to see them and relate to their experiences with the story. This could have easily been expanded into a full size novel by drawing in John Kirby's experiences in the War as well and interlacing the two into one. Even as a short story I would recommend this story to others. This story can relate to any young couple who are forced apart due to war regardless of nationality.

Widow Walk eBook B Scott Christmas Reviews

A wonderful short story that shows the potential of this young author. I look forward to watching his progress. He creates characters with real depth in locations that make you feel present in each scene. Keep your eye out for more from Mr. Christmas!
I began reading Widow's Walk and could not put it down. Christmas does an excellent job of making his characters seem real and I found myself completely drawn into the story. I look forward to sampling more of his work.
Love a good Christian down to to earth reading
Nice quick read. Not the great American novel but good book.
This story is very well written and told. The descriptive language that Scott uses paints a picture of the tragic life of a young woman dealing with loss during that dark days of WWII. Being from Lexington, from where Scott received inspiration for the story, made it more interesting and believable, but I also felt swept away to a different, unnamed locale that allowed me to focus on details of the plot. I truly enjoyed reading "Widow's Walk".
This book was very well written. It held my interest to the very end. I really felt the emotions the main character went through. I loved it. I will read anything this author writes. Keep up the good work.
I'm from London and my Nan used to talk about the American soldiers of that time, she used to ask "got a piece of gum, chum?" She said the American soldiers always had chewing gum.
As it happens I married an American man myself and now live in Indiana.
So for me, I thought it was a lovely story from an American woman's perspective of those times, having heard my grandparents tell me of what was going on in London during the war.
Very sad story though ultimately, but a great short read
